Shrove Sunday - February 7

Mardi Gras Coffee Hours after each service!
Before Lent begins, we have the opportunity to party one last time on.... Shrove Sunday! We're moving the traditional Tuesday event to our coffee hours on Sunday, February 7, with a New Orleans Mardi Gras theme.
The word Shrove, however, is not related to partying (important though parties are) but is part of the verb "to shrive", which has to do with repentance and forgiveness. Lent is a wonderful opportunity for some spiritual spring cleaning and, if we are to get the best out of this, we need to approach it in the right place. Paul once wrote to the church in Corinth, "We entreat you on behalf of Christ - be reconciled to God." To that end, The Rev. Lisa Hackney-James and I will be happy to meet with anyone from the cathedral community who wishes to partake in the Sacrament of Reconciliation of a Penitent before Ash Wednesday, if that would help you start Lent in the right place.
