Rev. Professor Mark Chapman is dean of college and lecturer in systematic theology at Ripon College Cuddesdon, Oxford, UK. He is vice principal and teaches modern church history; theology; ecclesiology; and Anglicanism. He is also course director for the college’s Oxford BA and other Oxford degrees except for the MTh. Apropos to the topic, among Chapman’s recent books are Theology and Society in Three Cities: Berlin, Oxford and Chicago, 1800-1914 (Cambridge: James Clark 2014) and The Fantasy of Reunion: Anglicanism, Catholicism and Ecumenism (Oxford University Press 2014). Chapman studies politics and philosophy and later theology at Trinity College, Oxford and spent a year in Munich during his doctoral studies. He was Stephenson Research Fellow at the University Of Sheffield before joining the staff at Cuddesdon in 1992. His research interests include ecumenism, the history and theology of Anglicanism, secularization theory, political and social theory, and theology in the 1960s.
