Recreating the betrayal, abandonment, and agony of the Passion
On the evening of Palm Sunday, please join us in a unique liturgical offering which strengthens the journey through Holy Week as it develops the solemnity of the Passion which abruptly takes hold in the morning liturgies during our reenactment of Jesus’ triumphal into Jerusalem.
‘Tenebrae,’ meaning ‘shadows’ is an ancient, monastic service which––through readings, chanted psalmody, highly evocative Renaissance polyphony, and the visual impact of darkness physically overcoming light––provides at once a transcendent overview of the events of Jesus’ last days and a beautiful backdrop for personal, contemplative prayer. The clergy and Cathedral Choir lead the service; there will be no sermon, collection, or communion. Music by Tallis, Gesualdo, and Victoria.
